XENIA BUILDS BETTER COMMUNITY WITH OPENING OF THE NEW XENIA Y

14 January 2019

[Xenia, 1-14-2019] — The new Xenia YMCA facility is officially open to the public after the facility opened on January 2nd at 336 Progress Dr. The new state-of-the-art facility includes two swimming pools, two gymnasiums, a suspended walking track, a group exercise studio, a functional fitness studio and an 8,0000 square feet fitness center.  The new Y opened in partnership as the new home of the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center and an entire wing of the new facility containing classrooms for Central State University and Clark State Community College.

Alan Milkis, the Xenia Y’s Executive Director, says he is excited to bring this new facility to the community. “The new facility is a gamechanger for Greene County. The building has been packed since we’ve opened, and the energy hasn’t slowed down at all. The community was ready for this upgrade.”

The new building is a first of its kind, President & CEO Dale Brunner said, having partnered to construct the facilities with five other organizations: Kettering Health Network, The City of Xenia, Central State University, Clark State Community College, and the Xenia Adult and Recreation Services Center.

“Our old building prohibited us from being fully-integrated with the community. Now, we are able to have students drop their kids off at child watch while they pursue a degree. Our senior members can share lunch at the Senior Center after enjoying a game of Pickleball in our gymnasium. This has been the goal the whole time, that pragmatically we are really working together to serve the community.”

With the growth of Greene County, comes the growth of the YMCA’s facilities, as the YMCA looks to offer opportunities to develop in health, education, and social responsibility through its partnership with the community.

“What makes this project so unique is it has had tremendous support from our partners, donors, local businesses and members of the community; the way the community worked together to make a vision become reality is truly amazing” Brunner said. “We wanted to make this Y a state-of-the-art facility to serve generations of people to come and to continue to support this community, because that’s what this is all about.”

The Xenia YMCA has a long history of serving the entire community and not just those who can afford to pay full price for membership fees and programs.  In 2018, 1,592 kids, teens and adults received a reduced membership fee as a part of the YMCA’s charitable commitment and 164 kids received additional help to participate in activities like basketball and swimming lessons. “As a Non-Profit Charity, the Y’s mission is about helping all people to improve their quality of life”, said Milkis.  “With the addition of this new facility, we anticipate helping even more people in 2019.”

The Xenia Y and Xenia Adult and Recreation Services Center are grateful to numerous community members for making this new facility possible. Many new spaces are dedicated in honor of a donors loved one or named in appreciation of a donor. In the YMCA these new sponsored spaces include the John and Betty Meyer Family Foundation Swimming Pool, the Eric and Amy Montgomery Conference Room, the Xenia Rotary Foundation Outdoor Sports Fields, the Terry Tobey Welcome Center, the Reichley Family Teen/Game Room, the Teresa L. Blevins Functional Fitness Room, the Ferguson Construction Outdoor Walking Track, the Jamestown Area Foundation and Security National Bank Flagpoles, the Dallas and Annis Marshall Atrium/Lobby and sponsoring the new home of the Xenia High School Buccaneer Swim Team is the Doug Adams Trust.  In the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, the new sponsored spaces are the A.J. Earley Café, and the David D. & Carol C. Library.
